On March 19, 2015, our Heavenly Father called one of His beloved home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Hamlin Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the funeral home.


Basilio Ben Olvera, Jr. was born on March 6, 1955, in Anson, Texas to Basilio and Lidia Olvera. He was the oldest of ten children. He married Della Perez on December 21, 1971 and together they had four children. He began working as a farmer at the young age of fourteen and one of his favorite things to do was take his wife, children, grandchildren and other family members for a ride on his tractor. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and kept everyone entertained with his funny stories and ways.

He was preceded in death by his parents Basilio and Lidia Olvera; brothers, Modesto and Lupe Olvera; and sisters, Sylvia Martinez and Gloria Flores.

He is survived by his loving wife, Della Olvera; son and daughter-in-law, Marcos and Jody Olvera; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and cedric Shields; son and daughter-in-law, Ben Olvera, Jr. and Mary Redfearn; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Remel Derrick; grandchildren, Alexis Olvera, Anthony Olvera, Jordan Shields, Daryck Shields, Desmond Shields, Breanna Olvera, Trista Olvera, Emerie Olvera, and caylie Olvera-Green; great-granddaughter,; Alli Montanez-Olvera and brothers, Margarito Olvera, Ramiro Olvera, Danny Reyes, David Garcia, and Rene Garcia.

The family would like to give special thanks to Kelly Hight for being a constant ray of sunshine in her Uncle Bass' life and for her service as one of his pallbearers. The family would also like to give thanks to Angie Hildebrandt, Kristi Marsh, Mark Perez, George Perez, Benny Flores, Ramiro Olvera, Jr. and Zach Ramos for their service as pallbearers.

No one will ever fill his boots or fit his black hat.
