HAMLIN JAMES DONALD YOUNG, passed away on May 22, 2013, at his home in Hamlin after a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Hamlin Church of the Nazarene. Donald was born on the family farm in Fisher County, Texas on June 4, 1932, the youngest child of the late E.G. Fred and Mae Nall Young. He attended the Swedonia Schools, later transferring to and graduating from Hamlin High School in 1949. Donald was a 1957 graduate of Texas AM University and a veteran of the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion Seabees. After college graduation, he returned home to Hamlin and went to work for the Farmer and Merchants National Bank now Hamlin National Bank where he would go on to serve as a loan officer, stockholder, and or.
Donald married Patricia Patti Bigham on April 21, 1962, in Hamlin. An active member of the Church of the Nazarene, he served in positions on the church board, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and interim preacher. Retiring from the bank in 1995, he enjoyed 10 years of excellent health, spending time on his farm, raising cattle, traveling, hiking, and enjoying his grandchildren.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jean Young Kenton, and one brother Gerald Young.
Survivors include his wife, Patti, of Hamlin two sons, Mark Young of San Antonio, and Greg Young and wife, Beth, of Abilene grandson, Matt Young of Abilene granddaughters, Kayla Crockett and husband, Jarrod, of Abilene, and Cynthia Young of San Antonio greatgranddaughter, Lily Mae Crockett of Abilene He was also honored to have loving sistersinlaw in his life, Joye Mayo husband, Harold, Rita Young, and Pat Bigham.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Anton Melnyk of Abilene, Dr. Krishna Sunkavalli of Hamlin, and the wonderful staffs of Hamlin Memorial Hospital, Hendrick Medical Center and Hospice Care.
