Dora Lee Henry, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of January 1, 2022. She was born on the Rolling Plains in Stamford, Texas, on August 26, 1925, to Joe Ben Lewis and Dora Allyne Boyd.
Her early years in Hamlin were cut short when her father was killed by a lightning strike. She was three and her older brother, Joe Ben, was five. The great depression had just started, and her mother and extended family moved to Sweetwater, Texas, for work. Dora finished her junior and senior years of high school in Sweetwater and married her high school sweetheart, Bradley C Henry, on April 25, 1943. Bradley joined the Army Air Corp during World War Two and remained in the Air Force as a pilot after being recalled during the Korean War. Dora raised her family at stations in Alaska, Oklahoma, and Louisiana before they retired and lived many years in Georgetown, Texas. She returned to the Rolling Plains in 2013 after her husband’s death and lived her last years in Abilene.
Dora is survived by her son, Bradley C Henry Jr., her daughter, Carolyn Fagg, 5 grandchildren, Will Henry, Ben Henry, Shannon Henry, Christopher Fagg, and Amy Moreau, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Hamlin East Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5th.
