EARL WAYNE BOATRIGHT, 73, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at his home in Hamlin.
Born June 20, 1943, in Anson, Texas, Wayne was the son of Nettie Lou (Story) and Elmer Woodrow "Woody" Boatright. He graduated from Hamlin High School in the class of 1961 and attended Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. Wayne served four years in the United States Air Force as a Russian Linguist, then worked for many years for the United States Department of Defense. Wayne wrote for the Hamlin Herald as a reporter and columnist for many years. He had the gift of gab, and could speak at length on many subjects in multiple languages. Wayne spoke fluent Russian and Spanish as a result of his service in the Air Force and Department of Defense. Wayne knew everything there was to know about doo-wop music, and could recall songs, bands, and band members.
