Ignacio “Nacho” Montoya, 83, passed away Monday, December 26, 2022, in Abilene, Texas. He was born on August 11, 1939, in Kingsville, Texas, to the late Lazaro Montoya and Camilla de Leon Montoya. On October 28, 1961, he married the love of his life, Aurora Gonzalez in Hamlin, Texas.
Ignacio will be remembered for being a loving family man, helpful to all, and a person of wit. He was also a dedicated farmer working for Whaley and Bryant Farms in Jones County. Because of all that hard work, he was given the opportunity to become a self, managed farmer in 1992. Montoya Farms planted cotton, sorghum and wheat in Jones County until his retirement in 2004.
Ignacio was proceeded in death by his parents Lazaro and Camilla Montoya; siblings Porfidio Montoya; Rafaela “Bita” Moreno; Matilde Serdia; and Lazaro “Larry” Montoya. He is survived by his wife, Aurora Montoya of Abilene; children Susie Montoya of Lewisville; Ivonne Jones of Fort Worth; Amy Montoya; Isabel Montoya; Christopher Montoya and his wife Jennifer all of Abilene; two grandchildren Joseph Duncombe of Fort Worth and Ethan Montoya of Abilene; siblings Israel “Lelo” Montoya of Bishop; Louisa Montez of Weslaco; Regino “Coy” Montoya of Houston; Juan Montoya and his wife Fela of Bishop; Camilla Estrada and her husband Jesse of Gelena Park; Mencha Gonzalez of Galena Park; and numerous nieces and nephews.
