Jose Francisco (Joe Frank) Garcia, born June 26, 1944 in Snyder, Texas to Apolonio (Paul) and Vera Lou (Ashton) Garcia, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the age of 74. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 15th at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin, TX. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 16th at the Hamlin funeral home with a procession following to the Girard Cemetery in Kent County, Texas. Raised in Rotan, Texas, he graduated from Rotan High School in 1963. Following a stroke suffered after a day filled with friends and cold beer, Joe fought for over a month like those who knew him might expect.
Mr. Garcia was an interesting man that most would remember to have an unmatched fondness for fast cars. He often named the cars and spent countless hours fixing or restoring his prized possessions. His children would tell you their strongest memories of their dad include his passion for cars and his affinity for ‘cold beer' - something that never changed throughout his life. Joe had a small circle of loyal friends that regularly showed up at his home to hang out and work on cars.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who honorably served in the Vietnam War, but was even more proud to be a member of the 1962 Rotan Yellowhammer's State Champion Football Team. He enjoyed creating and inventing all things useful and was a collector of sentimental items. He did everything in his own time and at his own pace with strength and perseverance. It is unusual for a man to build his own house from the ground up in his late 60's - but this was Joe Frank. There was very little that could keep him from a project he intended to complete.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Pete Garcia of Indiana and sister Nennie Lou Ramon of Oklahoma. He is survived by his son Jody (Melody) Garcia of Dallas who says his dad taught him to run away from a fight if you can, work for what you want in life and to push through a desire to quit to finish strong. He is also survived by his daughter Nikki (Shay) Favors of Abilene who says her dad taught her how to fix things, use sarcasm, laugh and passed to her a love for movies. He is also remembered and survived by his brother Jay (Carol) of Arizona and sister, Olga Castro (David) of Austin, Texas. Joe Frank had three grandchildren, Mason Bryan Garcia (Dallas), Aeneas Donovan Favors (Abilene) and Ashton Jayde Favors (Abilene).
