Hamlin John Earl Scarborough, 89, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2011, in the Neinda Cemetery ed by AdamsFosterRay Funeral Home. ation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the funeral home.
Born October 17, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, John was a son of the late Thomas Brennan and Nannie Pearl Chapman Scarborough. He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1939. John was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII. He married Ruby Trudell Gregory November 19, 1941, at Merkel. John was a longtime resident and farmer of Jones County. He served as chairman of the Jones County Democratic Party, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hamlin Memorial Hospital, and Chairman of the Neinda Coop Gin. John was also an active member of the Texas Farmer39s Union and the Free Masons.
John was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Scarborough, 1961, one granddaughter Kari Lee Gist, two brothers Tom and Jim and four sisters Marcelle, Lucille, Winona and Ruth.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Vickers of Fredricksburg, and Phyllis Kidd and husband, Chris of Dallas one grandson, Rick Vickers one greatgranddaughter, Ruby Gist and two greatgreatgrandchildren, Joshua Lee Durdin, Jr., and Kayla Marie Durdin.
