Johnnie Faye Hastings, 85, lifelong resident of Hamlin, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. A Memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the First Baptist Church. A private burial was held in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.
Born on September 28, 1929, in Celotex, Johnnie Faye was the daughter of the late John Arlin Griffin and Ruby Faye (Hudson) Griffin. She graduated from Hamlin High School in 1948. Johnnie Faye married Lee Hastings in Hamlin on May 22, 1948, where they resided until he passed away on April 12, 1995. They operated Texaco stations for 25 years.
Johnnie Faye worked for the Hamlin Schools for 27 years, of which 20 years she served as the Food Service Director, before retiring in 1996.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hamlin Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, Retired Teachers Association, and Senior Citizen Center, where she enjoyed spending time quilting. Johnnie Faye was an avid Pied Piper and Lady Piper fan and spent countless hours attending various sporting events.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Freddy, and several nephews.
Johnnie Faye is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Spencer Ford, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Gloria Hastings and Paul Ray and Cindy Hastings, all of Hamlin; grandchildren, Dedra Davis and husband (David), Jamie Woods and husband (Jerry), of Hamlin, Emily Hastings of Abilene, Justin Hastings of Lubbock, and Larissa Hastings of Hamlin; great-grandchildren, Kylon, Kaylie, Jared, and Jordan, and numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Juanita, Eula, and Joretta; and brothers, Richard and Cecil; and special friend, Paul Gentry, and his daughter, Melva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church youth, Hamlin Ex-Students Association, or the Hamlin Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.
