Hamlin- Johnny Dale Hilliard, 70, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born February 23, 1947, in Stephenville, Johnny was the son of the late Glen and Faye (Pack) Hilliard. Johnny graduated from Roby High School and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era.
He married Joy Mueller on November 24, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were happily married for 33 years. Johnny owned and operated Hilliard Construction in Hamlin where he worked alongside his son for over 25 years, passing on his construction knowledge. He passed some of this on to his grandsons in recent years. He served as Post Commander of the Hamlin VFW Post 6014 for 18 years. He and the other members of the Post honored fellow veterans by placing more than 500 flags at 3 local cemeteries every Memorial Day. Johnny spent his weekends watching football and yelling at the TV. He especially loved watching football with his grandsons. He enjoyed going to the casinos, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents Glen and Faye Hilliard, one sister Wanda Godwin, father-in-law Emil Mueller, and brother-in-law Melvin Mueller.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Hilliard, one son and daughter-in-law Eric and Amanda Bell; three daughters, Jessica Yearian and husband Robert, Lynn Gregg and Misti Capron; two brothers, Mack (Lisa) Hilliard and Jay (Eileen) Hilliard; one sister Joan (Robert) Ferris; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
