Teresa Rivera, 53, of Lubbock passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 in Lubbock. A funeral mass will be held at 11am, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hamlin. Burial will follow in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation and rosary services will be from 5pm-7pm, Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home Chapel, with the rosary starting at 6pm.
Maria Teresa Rivera was born May 26, 1965 in Hamlin, TX to Joe R. and Lydia (Lopez) Baldivia. She was a 1983 graduate of Hamlin High School. Teresa met Eddie Rivera and the two were married July 12, 1988 in Lubbock. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock. Teresa worked with the Lubbock MHMR for over 20 years. She was very passionate about helping those suffering from mental health challenges. Teresa also worked at Marla's Community Living Service where she also applied her skills with helping those with mental health issues, for about 6 years. Teresa was a breast cancer survivor and was in remission for 3 years after beating her disease. She was a huge Dallas Cowboy Fan and her birthday corresponded with the Super Bowl year. She also loved riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Owning a Harley had always been one of Teresa's lifelong goals. She loved celebrating holidays and loved dressing up for the occasion. Teresa loved to get together with her family and friends to be outside and enjoy barbeque. She had one cat, Daisy, and one dog, Jeter, whom she loved like part of the family. Teresa was very sharp minded and had a quick wit about her; she was always ready with a comeback. She and Eddie were also avid dancers. One of Teresa's greatest characteristics was her compassion. She believed in always doing the right thing and being kind to people no matter what. She was a believer in "killing people with kindness".
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Lydia Baldivia and infant brother, Joe Baldivia.
Teresa is survived by her loving husband, Eddie Rivera; her children, Melinda Rivera, Steven Rivera, Victoria Rivera, Irene Lopez, Adrian Rangel and John Gonzalez; grandchildren, Nicolas Rangel, Sarah Lopez, Maleah Lydia Rendon; brother Johnny Baldivia; and numerous additional family members and friends.
