Marylee Roland Rosenbaum passed away on December 8, 2024, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 90.
She was the eldest daughter of Esther Fay Albritton Roland and Oley D. Roland. She was born on September 1, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas. Her family moved to Hamlin in 1942, and she attended the Hamlin public schools, graduating in 1953 from Hamlin High School, where she was a majorette for the pep squad.
Marylee attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas, and graduated in 1956 from North Texas State College, now University of North Texas. Marylee married her high school sweetheart, Joe Ray Rosenbaum, on January 22, 1955, and soon after their marriage they moved to Germany. Joe served in the Army in Germany for 2 years, and she taught at an American military base school. She also taught early elementary school at Roanoke, Texas; White Settlement, Texas; Hamlin; and Pampa, Texas. Her influence on children throughout her 30+ year career made a lasting impact on her students, whom she loved. Marylee and Joe lived in Pampa for over 30 years, and after retirement they moved to Tyler, Texas, to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her uncles and aunts, Leon and Geneva Albritton Thurman and Henry and Dorothy Boyd Albritton; her brother-in-law, James Kenneth Smith; and several cousins, including Cecilia (Cel) Albritton Cowan of Hamlin.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Ray Rosenbaum; her sister, Reba Fay Roland Smith; her niece, Angela Dene Smith Billings (Jeff); and her nephew, Timothy Roland Smith (Jennifer), all of Tyler, Texas; and several cousins.
