Hamlin Melvin James Scott, 81, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, in Hamlin. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at AdamsFosterRay Funeral Home Chapel, burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. ation will be 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the funeral home.
Born June 8, 1931, in Hamlin, Melvin was a son of the late James Claiborne Gene and Mae Miller Scott. He graduated from Hamlin School. Melvin married Joyce Miller Colley June 1, 1963, in Hamlin. He worked for Carl Murrell Chevrolet, and then Southwestern Bell for 34 years as a lineman, and drove the Double Mountain Coach until his 70th birthday. Melvin served as Mayor of Hamlin for several terms, was a member of the Pioneers Club, Rotary Club, and the Christian Motorcyclists Association International. He was a Baptist.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, two sons Donovan W. Colley and Stanley D. Colley.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Miller Scott of Hamlin three sons, Tom Scott, Carson Scott, and Shaq Lundy one daughter, Tara Denys one sister, Melba Watson and several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and a grandson in the USAF.
