Oletha Waldrop

Oletha Maynard Waldrop, 86, passed away August 31, 2018, in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, September 3, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Hamlin, Texas. Burial will be in the Neinda Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. A visitation is scheduled on Sunday, September 2, 2018 form 5-6 pm at the Adams-Foster Funeral Home in Hamlin.
Oletha Maynard Waldrop was welcomed into heaven on August 31, 2018. She was born in the Neinda community to Grover and Cloma Maynard on April 7, 1932. Oletha attended school in Neinda before transferring to Hamlin Public Schools in the 5th grade. After graduation, she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an Operator. When the company went to a dial system, she transferred to Lone Star Gas. Oletha worked there until 1968 when she decided to stay home to raise her daughter. She returned to the workforce in 1980 for the City of Hamlin as a clerk and certified tax collector. Oletha retired from the City in 1997.

Oletha was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hamlin. She was active in the church throughout the years serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years and on various committees. Oletha was a former member of the Hamlin Literary Club and the United Way. She was a girl scout leader for many years and served as Chairman of the Girl Scouts.

Oletha married Johnny Waldrop of McCaulley on October 29, 1953. They were married for over 52 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2005. In addition to her husband, Oletha was preceded in death by her parents Grover & Cloma Maynard and her sister, Faye.

Oletha is survived by her daughter, Susie Waldrop Smith, and her husband, Rod of Lubbock. Her three grandchildren, Derick Smith and his wife Erin and their children Emery and Tres, Kristen Blackwell and her husband Brayden, and Meredith Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be given the First United Methodist Church of Hamlin, or Hospice.
