Funeral mass will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 11, 2019 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hamlin, Texas. Interment will follow in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, Hamlin, Texas.
Born July 8, 1927, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Rita was the daughter of Charles R. and Irene Castonguay Hall. Following the completion of her education in Ottawa, Rita joined the Ottawa Citizen newspaper as an advertising artist. At the same time, as a fan of the Ottawa Senators minor league baseball team, she developed what became a lifelong love of baseball. It was this love for the sport that indirectly brought her to Texas to visit friends. During this first visit to Texas, she met a strapping, young cowboy, Gerald Young. Her second trip to Texas turned into a much longer journey. She and Gerald were married April 1, 1950, and were together almost 60 years until his death in 2009. Their life together was a classic love story.
Rita was a charter member, liturgical reader and Eucharistic minister at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hamlin. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a Pink Lady at Hamlin Memorial Hospital. Any recollection of Rita's life would be remiss without noting her quick wit and her love for her family. Whether it was watching a Rangers game or hosting and cooking for a large family gathering, she always looked forward to spending time with family, and loved being around them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Jan Sellers, son, Gerry Young, grandson, Chas Sellers and brother, C.R. ‘Buddy' Hall.
