Born June 4, 1935, in Jones County, Texas, Robert was the son of Wiltz Watts and Ruth Goodwin Fletcher. He grew up in Hamlin, Texas, where he excelled at every sport available at Hamlin High School, especially baseball. After graduating from Hamlin High School, he attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship, before transferring to Texas Christian University. After college, Robert served in the United States Marine Corps. He then went to work on offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Robert loved the outdoors, and would do anything for anyone that needed help. Upon his retirement, he moved back to Hamlin to care for his mother. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiltz and Ruth Fletcher one brother, Garland Watts Fletcher one nephew, Jason Fletcher and one brotherinlaw, Bo Newland.
Robert is survived by one sister, Patsy Newland of Hamlin two brothers, Lane Fletcher and wife, Beth, of Hamlin, and Marcus Fletcher of Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.
