Sebastian Benavides went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 23, 2018 surrounded by his family and love ones. Funeral mass will be held at 2pm, Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hamlin. Burial will follow in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is set for Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 6pm until 8pm; with a rosary service at 7pm.
Sebastian was born June 26, 1943, in Port La Vaca, TX to Catarino and Maria Benavides. He was a brother of seven siblings.
He married Maria Salazar on June 5, 1965 and together they raised six wonderful children. He worked as an oil field truck driver for many years. To his kids he was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was someone who truly enjoyed life. He loved music, dancing, singing, eating, playing games such as Bingo, gambling and driving fast. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. Sebastian was known for being himself around everyone he came across and always had a smile on his face. Despite all the pain he had been in through his journey, he never lost his love and faith for the Lord.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Maria Benavides of Hamlin; four sons, Jesse Benavides and wife Linda of Dilley, David Benavides and wife Amy of Hamlin, Sebastian Benavidez of Hamlin, and Adam Benavides and wife Chelsea of Hamlin, and one daughter Terry Benavides and husband Gilbert Guerra of Hamlin. Two sisters, Petra Robles and Herminia Benavides of Hamlin, sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Benito Benavides, a daughter Liza Benavides (7 infant siblings, Petra, Atilana, Fabiana, Ignacio, Manuel, Panfilo, Claudia Benavides); four other brothers, Domingo (Lupe) Benavides, Guillermo Benavides, Engenio (Emma) Benavides, and one sister Filipa (Trine) Garcia, Santana Valdez, and brother-in-law Julio Robles.
