Theodore R. Miller Jr. (Reverend Ted Miller) was born on September 10, 1939, to Ruth Mae Smith and Theodore R Miller Sr. in Port Arthur Texas. He passed from this earthly life on April 12, 2024, in Hamlin, Texas. Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church, Hamlin at1:00 P.M. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 P.M. on April 15, 2024, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home, Hamlin, Texas. The burial will be in the Hamlin Memorial Cemetery following the service.
Brother Miller was called to preach at the age of thirteen. At the age of fifteen, he held his first revival. His sister and parents traveled with him to help him in the ministry. They assisted him as he traveled to hold several revivals at different churches. One of those revivals brought him to Anson, Texas, to hold a revival. There he met Joyce Cornelius. They married in Rotan, Texas on August 13, 1960. They continued his ministry in Snyder, Texas and then to South Texas where he served in several churches. He was certified as a minister in 1957 in the South Texas District. In 1982, God called them to Hamlin where he was ordained as an Assembly of God Minister in 1985 with the North Texas District. During his time in Hamlin, he would go to the nursing home on Sunday mornings before his church service and teach a Sunday School class for the residents. He would also go on Wednesdays and sing, pray, and lead a devotional time for them. Brother Miller delivered hot meals to the shut-ins, wrote a weekly Christian article for the Hamlin Herald for seven years and served as the President of Hamlin’s Ministerial Alliance Association. In 2011, Brother Miller was selected as Hamlin’s Man of the Year. Brother Miller was the pastor of First Assembly of God in Hamlin for 39 years and 7 months. At his retirement he was just shy of 67 years in the ministry.
Brother Ted Miller was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Miller; one son, Roger Miller; two grandchildren, Ashley Miller, and Roger Ted Miller and twelve great-grandchildren.
