Vera Dean (Johnson) Hooper, the second of three children, was born to Jesse Johnson and Hester Mae (Butler) Johnson in Hamlin, Texas, on April 21, 1943. Vera married Belton Ray Hooper, and to that union one son, Curtis, was born.
A lifelong resident of Hamlin, Vera attended the Oscar De Priest School. She was employed by the Hamlin School District, as a Teacher's Aide for 30 years prior to retirement. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health failed.
Vera was received home by our Lord and Savior on July 14, 2015. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hester Mae; father, Jesse; husband, Belton; son, Curtis; and "special" nephew, Kenneth Johnson.
Those remaining to cherish her memories are: her sister, Barbara Johnson (Gardena, California); brother, Benny Johnson (Hamlin, Texas); a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and devoted friends.
Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at the Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home, 505 NW 5th Street, Hamlin, Texas. Funeral Services will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, July18, 2015, at the First Baptist Church, 217 SW Avenue B, Hamlin, Texas, with Pastor Eddie Jordan, Eulogist, officiating.
