Born June 10, 1945, in Van Buren, Arkansas, Vera was the daughter of Douglas and Meta (McClure) Johnson. She married the love of her life, Ernesto Rivera, in December of 1968. She worked as a Dietician's Aide for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and taking care of them. Vera was also an excellent cook.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernesto Rivera; three grandsons: Dionesio Montanez, Manuel Alaniz, III, and Richard Villarreal; one granddaughter, Aurora Montanez; her parents; two brothers, and one sister.
Vera is survived by one son, Adolfo Rivera and wife, Cindy, of Hamlin; six daughters, Tina Alaniz and husband, Manuel Jr., of Rotan, Margie Rivera of Stamford, Rachel Rivera and husband, Gene Brazee, of Aspermont, Aurora Alaniz and husband, Armando, of Big Spring, Dora Anderson of Hamlin, and Nora Rivera of Hamlin; one sister, Mary Dell Allen of Oklahoma; twenty-four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
