Verlene Stewart Waggoner was born to Larry Vernon Stewart and Alma Mae Hall Stewart on March 23, 1930 in Swenson, Texas. Verlene moved to Hamlin and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Jerry Frank Waggoner of Hamlin on October 1, 1947, and together, they operated Waggoner Drug Company and Waggoner Real Estate and Insurance all in Hamlin. After retirement, Verlene lived in Ruidoso, NM, Denton, TX, and later in several facilities in Abilene, TX. In her lifetime, Verlene enjoyed traveling, dove hunting, entertaining and talking to people, dancing, and spending time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren.
Verlene went "home" to dance with Jesus on January 22, 2018 in Hamlin, Texas. Verlene is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, her parents Vernon and Alma, and countless friends and family.
Verlene leaves behind two daughters, Jeri Ann Wilder of Colorado and Suellen Mayfield of Hamlin; four grandchildren, Jasmine Mayfield Majkowski of Abilene, Miles Mayfield of Hamlin, Cody Wilder and wife, Veronica, of Colorado; and Eli Wilder of Colorado; and four great-grandsons: Noah and Chandler Majkowski and Jackson and Cody James Wilder. Verlene has one sister, Lavon Nieman, of Hereford, Texas.
Verlene reminded everyone to always take the time to "stop and smell the roses." She had a charismatic personality and a smile that could light up a room. Verlene never met a stranger and could have long conversations with anyone, anywhere. She also blew everybody a kiss, and today, she would remind you to have a "Big Time" and not to cry for her as she had a great life and enjoyed it all!
