Wanza was the daughter of A.W. and Foy (Fennell) Bowen. She married the love of her life, Thomas Eugene Baker, on August 7, 1951, in Rotan, Texas. A longtime resident of Hamlin, Wanza worked as an administrative assistant for many years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Friends Sunday School class. In her spare time, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing, baking (especially Christmas goodies) and serving as a member of the Hamlin Hospital Pink Ladies.Wanza was a valued employee of The Hamlin Herald as typesetter in the 1970's when the Craigs were owners.
Wanza is preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Thomas Baker; her parents, A.W. and Foy Bowen; her son, Roy L. Baker; her daughter, Nancy Elaine Baker; and her sister, JoAnn Cleaver.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Baker of Waco, and Neal Baker of Taylor; one daughter, Cheryl Clayton and husband, Carl, of Ardmore, OK; her sister, Anita Noles and husband, Glenn; two brothers-in-laws, Odis Cleaver and Stanley Baker and wife, Susan; five grandchildren, Jolene Sinkule and husband, Carl, Jill Baker Oliver, Rowdy Clayton and wife, Melanie, Ryder Clayton and wife, Meagan, and Janiece Baker; four great-grandchildren, Lacey Sinkule, Lindsey Sinkule, Rhett Clayton, and Cadence Clayton; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
