Winford Fletcher

July 15, 1939 — October 2, 2015

Winford Lane Fletcher, beloved husband, father, and friend, 76 years old, of Hamlin, TX went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, October 2, 2015. He was born July 15, 1939 in Hamlin, TX to the late Wiltz Watts Fletcher and Ruth Goodwin Fletcher.
Lane graduated from Hamlin High School in1957. He was a talented athlete who played football, basketball, baseball, ran track, and was a Golden Gloves boxer. He attended Texas Christian University. He married his sweetheart Beth Scarber on June 18, 1960 in Henrietta, TX. They lived in several places during their life together, mostly in Amarillo, Midland and Hamlin. Throughout his life Lane worked in the oil field, for the Santa Fe Railroad, and later as a welder, in the insurance field as a salesman, staff adjuster, and catastrophe adjuster, and more.
Lane enjoyed being outdoors - fishing, hunting, golfing, and camping and river trips with his family. He liked home-improvement projects and yard work. He loved family gatherings, and would often make homemade ice cream for everyone. He loved a good bowl of vanilla ice cream. He enjoyed watching pro football, and especially enjoyed watching his children play sports and coaching them. As a result of coaching little league football, he sustained a broken collar bone - the only team injury of the year! And, he had a very special place in his heart for his dog Napoleon.
Lane was respected and dearly loved by all who knew him. He had a fun-loving, dry sense of humor and was a joy to be around. He was a very special father and grandfather and his children and grandchildren loved spending time with him. He was a loving husband and dear friend with a kind, gentle spirit. He was generous and humble, and loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. He touched many lives and he will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents Wiltz Watts Fletcher and Ruth Goodwin Fletcher, brothers Watts and Robert, grandson Joshua Brooks, and nephew Jason Fletcher.
He is survived by his wife Beth of Hamlin, TX, son Mitch Fletcher of Denver, CO, daughter-in-law Traci Whatley of Texarkana, AR, son Michael Fletcher and Lanie Kulbeth of Midland, TX, daughter Dianne Brooks and husband Todd of Midland, TX, daughter Amy Fletcher and Scott Dean of Albuquerque, NM, sister Patsy Newland of Hamlin, TX, and brother Mark Fletcher of Arizona, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
